steps to prepare pelakai dha gatti (jack fruit rice cake)

Jack fruit rice cake is one of the famous food item prepared in Tulunadu. Manglore recipe is something like we prepare most of the food items using rice or coconut to it.It is one of the core ingredient to most of our recipes . Jack fruits is one fruit which is liked by most of the people in south canara. Jack fruit is grown during rainy season.From then on most of the people prepare this food item(pelakai dha gatti) and they have it in their breakfast.We use teak leaves to cover it.We can even use banana leaves but teak leaves will give a different color and odor to it.It will be sweet and we can have it with chicken curry(kori gasi) which is the best combination to pelakai dha gatti. If you are a vegetarian then you can have it with sambar also.steps involved in preparing this recipe is




step 1: Get a jack fruit.Cut the jack fruit into pieces and separate its seeds from it.keep it aside.One of the tough task involved in this recipe is to cut the jack fruit which is not easy.i used to help out my mom while separating seeds from jack fruit piece.

step 2: soak rice in water for 4 hours.

step 3:Grind the jack fruit with soaked rice and add pepper,cardamom also .Add  jaggery if required. Some jack fruits will not be that sweet so we can add jaggery to it.Do not add water.Make a thick paste so that we can cover it using teak leaves.

step 4:Add grated coconut and salt to the paste and stir it well.Let the coconut and salt mix well.

step 5:This cake is made using teak leaves which gives a nice color and smell to it.So the next step involved is add the thick batter of jack fruit into the teak leaves and fold it and place it on the steamer.

step 6:For first 15 min keep it at high flame.Let it first cook faster and later let it bake at low flame for 45 min.We have to maintain the flame so that it doesn't gets over cooked. 

step 7:After it gets cooked ,off the flame and remove the lid cut the cake into pieces.

step 8:Now its ready for serving.Serve it hot.We can have it with chicken curry(kori gasi) which is a great combination to it.Most of the manglorians prefer it with kori gasi which is a bit spicy.There is a combination of sweet and spicy.Most of the manglorians prefer to have spicy food so I prefer to have it with kori gasi.

         This is very delicious food item.we can have it as of our breakfast or even as our lunch or whenever we wish to have.Using jack fruit we even prepare dosa by using the same batter.Instead of baking it on to steam using teak leaves we can prepare a dosa out of the same batter by adding ghee which is very sweet and tasty.During rainy season in most of houses we can find this food being prepared.This very healthy also.
          Again the seeds which we have separated can be added while preparing sambar. Or we can just boil those seeds add salt to it and have. My mom used to say like during their childhood they used to boil those seeds and have which is very tasty and that could fill their stomach also.Most of the people in olden days were not so rich.They dint even had food to have in that case they used to have jack fruit.They prepared various recipe on jack fruit.One of the famous recipe pelakai dha gatti. And it is still mouth watering dish to manglorians. Rarely we can find people saying"I don't like this recipe".But people who are originally from tulunadu,staying out of this place just love this pelakai dha gatti. Its a common thing that people originally from tulunadu staying away from this place will definitely miss the food which is prepared over here.I have heard many people staying abroad say they miss the food a lot.

Natures love

Far of city! mind refreshing place....

 December... good time to visit this place.Morning 6.30 clickzz. Love to sit in this place alone and think peacefully of my life.The way to this place is also very beautiful.cool air,fresh air eye soothing beauty...❤❤❤

This picture hypnotize me to go deep into the beauty of this place.just looking into this picture makes me feel like I m really into that place. Grany's home is 15 min distance from my home.Very beautiful place.Mountain,lots of trees,green field and river near to this field which makes this place beautiful.No more houses near to this place as in we have in cities.houses are quite far from each other.River water is so clean and we all cousins played in water and even learnt swimming and we have many memories to cherish.We have rice field over here and our grand pa used to cultivate rice and we could practically see as to how hard it is to cultivate rice.
     


  Normally in my home i have rice two times a day but here the tradition is like all will have rice thrice a day.Its like morning also they have rice.but its not with the curry.They will prepare ganji(starch)and they will add ghee to it.This is a kind of tradition they follow.As the people over here will be working hard in the field so they need strength to work till evening,ganji is something which will give them strength to work more.My grand pa still follows the tradition of cultivating rice.As nowadays most of them have migrated themselves to city area and most of them have sold their field but we still cultivate rice.
         This place is very peaceful.No crowd.We can spend time just by looking into the beauty of nature.Sky,mountain and field makes up great combination.We have small hut beside this field where we can sit and just look at the entire field.Whenever i visit this place i just go to that hut and sit peacefully and enjoy the beauty.I just love to click pictures of this place.


Home garden..

My mamma's garden which calls me whenever i feel to click pictures.My new phone which made me show interest in photography.The phone clarity is so good that whenever any beauty attracts me i click pictures.My mamma had planted various flower plants of different colors. So whenever it rains i carry my phone to garden to click pictures.Rain adds more beauty to this flower.Rain droplets in leaves looks like pearls.

Temples Of Tulunadu

     Parashurama shrushti Tulunadu has famous temples like Kateel Shri Durgaparameshwari,Kudhroli,Kadri,kollur,venkatramana,Dharmastala Manjunatheshwara,Subramanya etc.Many people come from far away places to visit these temples.

My last week visit to Shri Krishna temple.


Last week I had been to Udupi shri Krishna mata temple.One specialty in that temple is most of the people have anna prasada in floor without any plate or anything like.They had a wish to be fulfilled so they have anna prasada in floor as they believed that lord shri Krishna will help out them to tackle their problems.

        Very often I' l be visiting Kateel temple.The people of tulunadu believe her a lot.Its like most of the wishes coming true.Food served in this temple is very tasty.Any number of visitors can have food here daily.





Mallige(jasmine flower) and patte seere(saree)is given by devotees to god.Every couple after their wedding visits this temple to receive blessings from amma.
